Firsts
I also ventured into downtown Prague on my own for the first time yesterday. What a gorgeous city! I'm sorry I couldn't post more photos. I think I'll have to get a Flicker account. I'm attempting to post some on Facebook so you can check them out there too.
Last night I went to Alpha with Mark. We stopped by a little local grocery store to get the food for dinner and then headed out to the church. As I mentioned the church is held in an elementary school. Making dinner was quite the adventure. Here I was with two Czech guys in a semi-equipped kitchen trying to make a meal. Pastor Robert had it all planned out, he used to be a cook in the army so the plates of "cold dinner" looked great. We mostly used gestures to communicate and for awhile there I didn't think we'd have everything ready by 7 but we made it. I wish I had taken a picture of the plates when they were done.
This morning I went to an English class and tonight I am babysitting for Mark and Gretchen. They have four kids ranging from age 10-2. Tomorrow Gretchen is taking me to the Old Jewish Quarter and I'm planning on spending most of the day exploring. I'm starting to miss hanging out with people my age and I wish some of you were here to explore with me.
So far the biggest cultural differences are how reserved people are. When you know someone they are quite friendly but you don't just walk up to people on the street and expect them to be helpful or open (though some are). Another difference is the bathroom. Toilets are usually in one room and sinks and bathtubs in another. Here at the Potmas there is no shower head just a little hose with a shower head that you can use in the tub. So I've been taking shower baths. The food is quite good. I ate at a local restaurant on the weekend and had pork schnitzel with potatoe pancakes. Quite greasy but I'm looking forward to going there again. Bread is eaten at almost every meal and it is sooo good.
Well I should get going and get my babysitter hat on. Ahoj!
